Sheffield-based rail depot equipment specialist, Mechan, will be raising more than just trains this month, thanks to the charitable efforts of managing director, Richard Carr.
Richard will be hitting the streets of his home city to take on the Great Yorkshire Run in support of Sheffield’s Children’s Hospital.
Held on September 29, the annual 10 kilometre road race around Sheffield will be Richard’s first organised event of this length. To prepare for the challenge, he has been training three or four times a week and is hoping his dedication will help raise £1,000 for the local children’s charity.
Richard said: “Sheffield Children’s Hospital is close to the hearts of everyone at Mechan. Most of our team live in and around the city and those of us with young children feel very fortunate that we have such an excellent facility on our doorstep. I have been running short distances for a couple of years and wanted a target to improve my fitness – participating in the Great Yorkshire Run for such a worthy charity is the perfect motivation.”
Support for Richard has already been forthcoming from his Mechan colleagues and across the rail industry. The money raised will be used by Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity to improve facilities and fund vital research, as well as adding the little touches that make a big difference to families using the hospital.
