Access Platforms
Mechan offers a range of fixed and mobile platforms for the maintenance of train roofs.
These durable and reliable working platforms are designed to the highest safety specifications, minimising the frequency and duration of inspection periods, lubrication and maintenance. Wherever possible, the equipment is automated and standardised to keep necessary spare parts to a minimum.
Fixed platforms can be supplied with a single or double catwalk, equipped with fences and tilting pads driven by pneumatic cylinders, to cover all of the spaces between the platform and the train roof.
Operators access the platform via a metal ladder. A gate interlocked with a full range of safety devices secures the catwalk and lifelines are available for a maximum of three people. Interlocks are also fitted to the platform for use in areas with overhead electric cables.
A control system is provided to ensure the tilting pad system works correctly. These include limit switches to detect the actual position of each tilting pad and a pneumatic system to supply compressed air to the cylinders, which are equipped with solenoid valves, air filters and an air pressure regulator.
Mobile platforms boast the same range of features as their fixed counterparts, but they are typically shorter in length (approximately four to six metres). They are moved around a depot or workshop on track or metal wheels rolling on a dedicated rail.
By using mobile platforms it is possible to perform daily or periodic maintenance of the components located on a train roof, such as air conditioning systems, electric converters, air and water tanks and pantographs etc. As an optional extra, they can also be equipped with a jib crane, boasting a typical SWL of 500 to 1,000 kilograms.
Mechan's commitment to customers starts with the production of preliminary engineering studies, before platform specifications are drawn up, including electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. Erection, operation and maintenance details are provided with all platforms, along with relevant health and safety information.
