Jacks make uplifting appearance in Nexus film

We wanted to wish the Tyne and Wear Metro a very happy 40^th birthday and congratulate operator, Nexus, on its excellent virtual tour of the Gosforth depot in Newcastle.

The video is a fascinating insight into the history and present-day operations at this key maintenance facility, which is soon to be reconstructed to cater for a new fleet of Metro trains. We were delighted to see our jacks make a guest appearance ten minutes into the tour, playing an integral role in the wheel lathing process.

It is such a shame that the coronavirus pandemic prevented public tours of the depot taking place to mark this pivotal moment in the Metro’s development. However, this virtual tour gives you a real sense of the hard work undertaken by Nexus’ dedicated staff.

Happy anniversary Metro from everyone at Mechan – we look forward to seeing what’s in store for Gosforth in the next 40 years!
