Two heavyweight members of the Mechan family are swinging into action at Hitachi Rail’s new rail vehicle manufacturing facility in County Durham, following its official opening. The Newton Aycliffe facility is using a pair of 80 tonne traversers developed by Sheffield-based Mechan to move vehicles along the production line.
Heavy lifting specialist, Mechan, might work across the world, but the Sheffield-based manufacturer had to look no further than South Yorkshire to secure its latest order. The rail depot equipment expert is to kit out a new train maintenance facility being constructed in Doncaster as part of the government’s flagship InterCity Express Programme (IEP).
